Comprehensive Eye Exam

Regular eye and vision examinations are an important part of caring for your eyes and overall health. Many eye and vision problems have no obvious symptoms and signs such as glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy, so you may not know a problem exists. Early diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases can help prevent vision loss. A comprehensive adult eye exam includes, but not limited to, the following tests: visual acuity, eye focusing, eye teaming and eye movement testing, refraction for eyeglasses prescription, eye health evaluation of the front and inside the eye for common eye diseases such as cataract, glaucoma & macular degeneration.

As a contact lens wearer, it is important to have your eyes examined annually to make sure they remain healthy, and the power and fit of your current contacts are still the best for your eyes and individual lifestyle. For first time wearers, we provide contact lens fitting and train patients on application and care regimen. Price is in addition to a comprehensive exam. A comprehensive exam and contact lens exam can be performed at the same visit.

Pediatric Eye Exam

Pediatric eye exams are vital in keeping children healthy and ensuring proper development. The American Academy of Optometry & American Academy of Ophthalmology recommend an eye exam as early as 6 months of age. There are eye conditions such as amblyopia (lazy eye) that are treatable if diagnosed early. In order to get the most accurate prescription for your child, we need to dilate the pupils to relax the focusing system. These eye drops are safe and a part of standard care, but it will cause your child to have light sensitivity and blurry vision for 1-2 days. Other tests performed depending on age are: color vision, depth perception, eye focus and teaming, eye health.

Myopia Management

The prevalence of myopia is increasing in the US and worldwide. The landmark study “Global Prevalence of Myopia and High Myopia and Temporal Trends from 2000 through 2050” published in the scientific journal Ophthalmology, projected that if current trends continue, almost 50% of the world’s population will be myopic by 2050. The primary justification for slowing myopia progression in children is to reduce risk of vision loss through sight-threatening ocular pathology in later life, such as cataract, glaucoma, retinal detachment and maculopathy. Right now, prescription eye drops called Atropine and orthokeratology are the most effective at slowing myopia progression. These treatments act almost like braces for the eye. Customized hard contact lenses are designed for patients to wear at night while sleeping, and remove upon awakening. This process gently reshapes the front surface of the eye to correct for myopia and help reduce the rate of progression. Ortho-K is a safe and convenient procedure for children who are at risk for progression in myopia. Please call our office if you want to learn more about myopia management.
